Your boat will have enough life jackets on board for everybody in your group. Younger children are welcome to bring their own life jacket if they are more comfortable, provided it is Coast Guard approved (no arm floaties, please!). Very enjoyable to see a part of the Cape from the water. We added a drive by the Chatham lighthouse and it was worth it! Even though the sun didn’t cooperate with us much that day, we still had a wonderful time! On a clear day, you can see straight across Buzzards Bay to Mattapoisett and West Island, creating a bold backdrop for fiery sunsets. You'll need to plan your trip, as a winding road takes pedestrians (or those with a 4x4 vehicle and permit) through sand dunes and tall grass to the secluded beach. Sandbars stretch out deep into the bay during low tide, making it an ideal place to take in a breathtaking sunset during evening strolls.
What to Expect on a Harbor Cruise
The surf at this beach is pretty big, so it’s amazing to listen to the sound of the waves crashing while watching the sun disappear from the sky. The Knob is a very cool little spot that’s perfect for a sunset in the Upper Cape area! Not as many visitors know about it, and it tends to be more of a local’s secret, but this is definitely a lovely place to linger on a clear summer night. Very close to Race Point Beach is Herring Cove Beach, which is another amazing location for sunset. Similar to Race Point, the sun will go down right over the water for a perfect view, and with long stretches of soft, sandy shoreline, this is an ideal location to end your evening.

This is a 2hr private tour – for you and your group only (plus one captain). Please be sure to read through the FAQ’s located at the bottom of this page. We have a blue tooth speaker (for music to be paired with your device) and tables (for your refreshments) available. Our Pleasant Bay scenic tours are appropriate for all ages and have no age restrictions. We have a limited amount of space on our group charters and each seat you initially reserve must be paid for unless you cancel ahead of time.
Depending on what you’re looking to do, the Bay Spirit has a variety of excursions. One of my personal favorite places for a lovely sunset on Cape Cod is Bass Hole Boardwalk at Gray’s Beach. This boardwalk stretches out over picturesque salt marshes, and at the very end of the boardwalk, you’re rewarded with a sunset that goes down straight in front of you. Skaket is a very popular beach for sunset, and for good reason! This is another beach that’s also part of the Brewster Flats, so timing your sunset with low tide is a very special experience. You’ll often find seals swimming in the water here, too!
The mile-long pedestrian causeway is a sliver of terrain that stretches out between Quissett Harbor and Buzzards Bay and leads to a little knob of land at the end of the path. The land is surrounded by brush, isolating it from the frenetic sounds of the Falmouth crowds. Given it's part of a nature preserve, expect to share views of New Bedford across the bay with birds from the nearby sanctuary. To get to The Knob, you’ll walk about a half mile along a wooded trail, and there’s also a small beach you can enjoy. When you’re looking at a map of Cape Cod, you’ll generally want to look for sunset locations on the western side, along Cape Cod Bay.
